In life, we often tend to focus on the negatives. It’s true, no matter how hard we try to convince ourselves otherwise.
It can be overwhelming to think about everything that’s going wrong. Simply letting everything that’s tearing you down hit you all at once, like a tsunami of bad energy.
It leaves us feeling worthless, discouraged, or depressed. All of these feelings are unnecessary though, because the truth is: there are so many beautiful reasons to be happy.
No matter who you are, or what you’re going through, there has to be ONE THING that brings you joy or makes you smile. Maybe it’s a memory, or a person, or a career.
In life, there are always reasons to be happy, even when it seems like the world has turned it’s back on you.
Having trouble thinking of some? No worries. I’ve go a few right here to remind you why you have reasons to smile.
1) You’re alive.
Do you know how many people get denied that privilege? You are alive, living, breathing. You get to wake up every day and feel the sun on your skin. Be thankful for that.
2) You’re not blind.
I’m assuming that since you’re able to read this, you are not blind. That’s something to be very happy about. You can soak in the world and all it’s glory just with your eyes, so don’t take that for granted.
3) You have a computer/phone.
You have been blessed with technology. So many people are too poor to afford iPhones or tablets, and here you are, scrolling away and clicking to your heart’s content. Be thankful that you have access to technology, especially in this new age of computers.
4) You are loved.
Now I know what you’re thinking: “How could you possibly know that?” Well, the answer is that I don’t. I don’t know for certain that someone loves you. But I do know that someone did love you at one point or another. Somewhere along the line, you were loved. Be it by a parent, a sibling, a friend, or a lover. You were loved. Maybe you had your heart broken, or were abandoned by someone who promised they’d always be there for you. If you were, find peace in the knowledge that you are not alone. Everyone suffers heartbreak and loss, and everyone has to find their own strength to overcome it. Sometimes this strength can be found in others. So consider me someone you can find strength in. You may not know me, and I may not know you, but we are both here on this beautiful Earth. We are both human, and we both know pain. We both have seen suffering, possibly on different scales, but regardless we both know that this world would be nothing without love.
And we are both okay. We are both alive, not blind, provided with privileges others do not have, and WE ARE LOVED.
If not by anyone in our own lives, then by each other. Love is not just for lovers. Love is for fighters. Love is for those who care for each other on a level that others cannot. Love is a powerful word, one that is overused, yet not used enough.

Love does not just refer to desire, lust, heartbreak, or betrayal.
Love is more than a feeling. Love is an action.
And you are loved.
You may never know it, but there is someone out there on God’s green earth who loves you.
So find comfort in that.
You. Are. Loved.
There are so many beautiful reasons to be happy. Maybe it’s time you counted yours.
